Tom Green

Hi! I am a Ph.D. student in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Colorado at Boulder (CU). I have a wide interest in most topics of Computer Science and I am currently researching topics in software process as part of the Software Engineering Research Laboratory (SERL) at CU.

In addition to my school work I am president of a software engineering consulting firm, Practical Process Improvement, Inc., helping organizations improve their software processes, increasing quality and customer/employee satisfaction while decreasing cycle time.

I have over two decades of experience in the software field, including over a decade in management. During this time I have held roles as:

Consultant to Martin Process Solutions, Inc., creating training courses and documenting processes for excellence in program/project/enterprise management and SEI/CMM (Software Engineering Institute / Capability Maturity Model) based software process improvement.

Consultant with SofTec Solutions, Inc., reporting to US West (now Qwest), as a project manager of a group of middleware systems and as a software process mentor, helping the group attain SEI/CMM level 2 status.

Software Engineering Manager at Micro Motion, Inc. working with real-time systems, object-oriented analysis and object-oriented design, and SEI/CMM based software process improvement. (3-1/2 years)

Program Manager at Hughes Aircraft creating training and simulation systems with advanced Graphical User Interfaces (GUIs) leading a diverse team of systems, software, training and human factors engineers. I have also been involved with some of the early Virtual Reality (VR) research. (7 years)

Lead Software Engineer at Honeywell working with manufacturing automation systems, CAD systems design, hardware/logic design, office automation systems, ethernet networks, and graphic system design. (7 years)

Adjunct Faculty at the Rochester Institute of Technology, teaching Assembly Language Programming and Digital Logic Design. (1 quarter)

Intern at Xerox, creating graphical systems and providing I.T. support. (5 years)

I received my M.S. in Computer Science from Arizona State University (ASU) and my B.S. in Computer Science from the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), with highest honors.

I am also a pilot with single-engine commercial, instrument and instructor ratings.

When not working or studying I am usually spending time at home with my wife Kristen and daughters, Jessica and Stephany.
