Configuration Management Overview


Research in Configuration Management (CM) in SERL is focused on the following two topics:

In particular, we are addressing these issues in a global setting, i.e., where a group of software development organizations is participating in a physically distributed and decentralized effort to create one or more software systems.

We have developed a number of technologies to address the issues that arise in such a setting. To build CM systems that support geographically distributed development, we have taken an initial step in creating NUCM: a generic, peer-to-peer repository for Configuration Management. DVS is an example distributed CM system that we have constructed to demonstrate NUCMs capabilities. To deploy the often complex systems of systems that result from these development efforts, we have built SRM, a software release manager, and the Software Dock, an architecture and set of tools for distributed resource configuration and deployment over the Internet.
